The Buy Nothing Day Winter Coat Exchange set up on the Rhode Island State House lawn across from the Providence Place Mall today as it has done on the day after Thanksgiving for the last 21 years. “The event was started as a protest against the damage consumerism does to our communities and the the environment of planet Earth,” wrote founder Greg Gerritt in an oped last year.

This year the event started with two full U-Hauls of coats and countless drop-offs by car. You can find other locations listed here.
