The United Nurses and Allied Professionals (UNAP) Local 5098 conducted an informational picket outside the campus of Rhode Island Hospital on Friday. UNAP members are protesting a lack of resources and support from Lifespan as corporate administrators demand caregivers and health professionals do more with less.

“Lifespan brags about providing ‘health with care,’ but they couldn’t care less about the nurses, technologists, therapists and support professionals who are being pushed beyond the limit and left without the resources they need to do their jobs,” said Frank Sims, RN, president of UNAP Local 5098.

UNAP and Lifespan are in the midst of contract negotiations, as the current three-year agreement expires on June 30th. Lifespan has made “aggressive and draconian” attempts to raise health coverage costs and weaken the retirement security of hospital workers, say union officials.
