Standing in the freezing cold, members of Sunrise RI partnered with the FANG Collective and other climate activists to protest a fundraiser Invenergy‘s local law firm Adler, Pollock and Sheehan, threw for Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo at the exclusive Brown University Club in Providence Friday morning. Suggested contributions were $250, $500 and $1000.

Invenergy is the company that wants to build a $1 billion fracked gas and diesel oil burning power plant aimed at the pristine forests of northwest Rhode Island.

Lauren Maunus of Sunrise RI sent this statement:

“It is despicable that Gina can claim to be a leader on jobs and climate while continuing to side with fossil fuel executives over the health and safety of people in her state. We will not stand by while Invenergy’s lawyers work hard to raise money to keep her in office just to serve their own profit-making interests. If Gina wants to stay in office, she must reject fossil fuel money, oppose all new fossil fuel infrastructure, and champion a Green New Deal. Neither 8 degree weather nor early hours will stop our movement from showing up and demanding real action.”
