On the 65th day since its hearing in the Senate, the Rhode Island Democratic Party Women’s Caucus would like to renew their support of Senate Bill 0152, the Reproductive Health Care Act (RHCA), and urge Senate Judiciary Committee members to vote the bill out of committee and to the Senate floor for a vote.

As Chairwoman Tracy Ramos said in her testimony in March, “The truth is, Rhode Island law does not protect women equally when it comes to health care and our ability to make our own medical decisions and it does not protect the rights afforded under Roe.” Women’s healthcare is coming under attack like never before, and the women of Rhode Island deserve to be protected.

You can see the testimony of Tracy Ramos here:

Since January, twenty-one abortion restrictions have been enacted across the United States. Lawmakers in 28 state legislatures have introduced bills that seek to add even more restrictions, Georgia being the most recent with their so-called “Heartbeat Bill.” Ohio seeks to restrict access to forms of birth control. Miscarriages are being criminalized. Rhode Island already has the laws in place to protect access to abortion, the RHCA seeks to codify them, protecting women’s healthcare in the event that Roe v Wade is overturned, an increasingly urgent and dire scenario.

The time to protect women is now. No amendments. No delays.

We raise our voices with the 70 percent of Rhode Islanders that support access to legal, safe abortion, and demand that Senate President Dominick Ruggerio bring S0152 out of committee and to the Senate floor for a vote.
