Bridget Valverde announces candidacy for Senate District 35

Bridget Valverde, Vice Chair of the Rhode Island Democratic Party Women’s Caucus, has announced that she will run as a Democrat for State Senate in the 2018 election to represent District 35, currently represented by Republican Mark Gee. State Senate District 35 includes portions of East Greenwich, North Kingstown, South Kingstown and Narragansett.

“I’m running for State Senate to be the advocate the people in my district deserve at the State House: someone who is approachable and available to listen to their concerns and ideas,” writes Valverde. “Someone who will work hard to find solutions to problems. Someone who will pass legislation to improve the everyday lives of all Rhode Islanders.

“As your State Senator, I promise to fight for access to comprehensive health care for all, to protect the coastline and other natural resources in our beautiful state, and to raise wages and create opportunities for working families.

“I’m a mom, so education is always at the top of my mind. I will ensure we provide all Rhode Island children with education that will challenge them, grow their skills, and prepare them for the future. Providing safe and up-to-date school facilities is a huge piece of that, and I will support smart investments in school infrastructure.”

In her press announcement, Valverde writes:

Bridget lives in North Kingstown with her husband Will, and their two young sons, Oscar and Elliot. She has a professional background in the nonprofit sector. She has worked with national organizations expanding access to health care; with food banks helping make sure that children, families, and seniors have enough to eat; and with animal welfare organizations to stop cruel and inhumane treatment. She was recently elected Vice Chair of the Rhode Island Democratic Party Women’s Caucus and will use that role to ensure gender equity in our laws and government representation.

In the coming months, Bridget looks forward to talking with her neighbors about the issues that matter to them and to all Rhode Islanders. She is ready to advocate at the State House on behalf of East Greenwich, North Kingstown, South Kingstown, and Narragansett, as District 35’s newest State Senator.
