According to a research piece by Alex Kotch for Sludge, at least five companies in Rhode Island are profiting from contracts made with United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
CBP is “the largest federal law enforcement agency of the United States Department of Homeland Security, and is the country’s primary border control organization.” CBP is only supposed to hold people for a short time before they are released to other agencies, but because our immigration system is strained beyond capacity, detainees, including children, are being held longer, in deplorable conditions.
This year, “five children have died while in CBP custody,” writes Chloe Reichel at Journalist’s Resource.
So what companies in Rhode Island are profiting from what many observers are calling concentration camps and where are they located?
