RI House Committee assignments have been named

Conservative Representative Arthur Corvese has been named Chair of the Rhode Island House Labor Committee. Representatives Mary Messier and Karen Alzate have been named first and second vice-chairs.

Conservative Representative Arthur Corvese (RI Rank Overall 69th out of 75) has been named Chair of the Rhode Island House Labor Committee. Representatives Mary Messier (50th out of 75) and Karen Alzate (7th out of 75) have been named first and second vice-chairs. The position of chair was formerly held by Anastasia Williams, who lost her re-election bid to Enrique Sanchez in the last election.

“I am honored to lead the Labor Committee once again. This is a committee whose work has direct bearing on the lives of the working people of Rhode Island, and I look forward to our work to promote jobs, advance our quality of life and strengthen our economy,” said Representative Corvese in a statement.

Representative Corvese was Chair of House Labor from 2003 to 2004 and from 2007 to 2010. Rep. Corvese ranked 56th out of 75 in RI Rank’s 2022 “Worker & Student Rights” subcategory.

“The committee assignments,” said House spokesperson Larry Berman, “reflect Speaker Shekarchi’s leadership style of respect and collaboration in the House.”

New House members have been assigned to committees:

  • Representative Megan Cotter (Democrat, District 39, Richmond, Exeter, Hopkinton) has been appointed to Health and Human Services Committee and the Education Committee;
  • Representative Enrique Sanchez (Democrat, District 9, Providence) will serve on the Committee on Corporations and the Committee on Special Legislation;
  • Representative Jennifer Boylan (Democrat, District 66, Barrington, East Providence) will serve on the Committee on Environment and Natural Resources and the Committee on Innovation, Internet, & Technology;
  • Representative Tina Spears (Democrat, District 36, Charlestown, New Shoreham, South Kingstown, Westerly) will serve on the Committee on Environment and Natural Resources and the Committee on Municipal Government and Housing;
  • Representative Jon Brien (Independent, District 49, Woonsocket), and Independent, is to serve on the Oversight Committee, the Labor Committee, and the State Government and Elections Committee;
  • Representative Jennifer Stewart (Democrat, District 59, Pawtucket) to serve on the Health and Human Services Committee and the Innovation, Internet and Technology Committee;
  • Representative Anthony DeSimone (Democrat, District 5, Providence) will serve on the Corporations Committee and the Municipal Government and Housing Committee;
  • Representative Alex Finkelman (Democrat, District 74, Jamestown) will serve on the Corporations Committee and the Small Business Committee
  • Representative Brandon Voas (Democrat, District 57, Central Falls) will serve on the Corporations Committee and Education Committee;
  • Representative Brian Rea (Republican, District 53, Smithfield) will serve on the Education Committee, the Finance Committee and the Small Business Committee;
  • Representative Matthew Dawson (Democrat, District 65, East Providence) will serve on the Judiciary Committee and the Municipal Government and Housing Committee; and,
