Portsmouth resident John McDaid last week announced his candidacy for a Tax Assessor position on the Portsmouth Water and Fire District Board. On Monday, the Portsmouth canvasser certified his nomination papers, securing him a spot on the ballot for the Wednesday, June 13 election.

“Our environment and our town are important to me, and that’s why I’m running,” said McDaid. “I’m committed to providing stewardship of our community’s resources and infrastructure and ensuring that safe, clean water is delivered to all the district’s customers in an efficient and cost-effective fashion.”

McDaid is a retired IT project manager, and has served on multiple town committees, including the Portsmouth Conservation Commission, the Portsmouth School District Technology Committee, and the Charter Review Committee. A freelance journalist, he has covered Portsmouth news on his web site harddeadlines.com. He lives in Island Park with his wife, Karen, and their son, Jack, a PHS senior.

“With 20 years as a project manager at a large consulting firm,” said McDaid, “I have experience analyzing budgets, interpreting technical documents, reviewing plans, and working with teams to make decisions. I want to put that expertise to work for the ratepayers of the water district.”

The Portsmouth Water and Fire District is a quasi-municipal agency created in 1952 to provide water service to most of the town of Portsmouth. Nonpartisan elections for two tax assessor and one tax collector position on the administrative board will be held at the office, 1944 East Main Rd, on Wednesday, June 13, from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
