“I’m excited to officially welcome Bird to the Creative Capital,” said Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza. “Folks can take advantage of yet another quick, convenient and affordable way of exploring and commuting in our city. We’re proud of our growing selection of innovative and eco-friendly transportation options here in Providence.”

Bird first dropped their scooters throughout Providence in July without notice, prompting City Hall to come up with a series of regulations. Bird pulled their scooters out until the regulations could be reviewed and Bird reached a deal with the City. The regulations cap the number of scooters at 300. Bird and another company Lime, seem to have filled that number. Lime is another scooter company that placed their vehicles throughout the city today.

The electric scooters are accessed through an app.

“Bird believes everyone should have access to affordable and reliable transportation options that don’t pollute our communities,” said Hannah Smith, Manager of Government Partnerships at Bird for the Northeast. “Providence shares this vision, and understands what is possible when we invest in environmentally friendly alternatives. We are thrilled to join Mayor Elorza today in celebrating this new chapter for Providence, and we look forward to continuing to build our close partnership with city officials.”

At the conclusion of a very short press conference, Mayor Elorza and Hannah Smith took a ride around the block on the scooters, as can be seen in the video below.
