The Rhode Island Democratic State Committee announced today that it has hired Cyd McKenna as its new Executive Director. An experienced political and communications operative, McKenna most recently served as Deputy Communications Director in the Rhode Island House of Representatives, after previously serving as Chief of Staff to the Providence City Council and worked on several campaigns at the state and local levels.

“I could not be happier that Cyd has agreed to join the Democratic Party as our new executive director,” said Chairman Joseph McNamara. “Cyd has a demonstrated ability to manage in tough situations and her communications skills and ability to bring people together are critical assets that I believe we will all benefit from in 2020 and beyond.”

“I am truly grateful to have the opportunity to take on this important role at such a crucial time in our state and country. Democrats have won incredible victories across our state at every level, and as a result the RIDP has never been in a stronger position.” McKenna said. “That said, we have more seats to recruit candidates to, majorities to build upon, and the work to expel President Trump from the White House begins now. I can’t wait to roll my sleeves up and get to work building a party that can continue to deliver for Rhode Island families.”

McKenna will replace Tolulope Kevin Olasanoye, who recently accepted a new position as Executive Director of the New Jersey Democratic Party and is expected to officially start in early September.
