Providence City Council President Sabina Matos (Ward 15) entered self isolation for the next 14 days following news that a relative has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. In an email, Matos writes:

“Like so many others in Rhode Island and around the world COVID-19 has touched my family.

“I have learned that a relative has tested positive for the virus and is being treated in a local hospital; and following the direction of our family physician, my family is self-isolating for the next 14 days. We have no symptoms, and are healthy. We are doing this for the safety of our friends, family, and the community – and because it can help stop the spread of the virus.

“I will continue to work and conduct the City’s business remotely like so many others in our state and around the country.

“I remind people to follow Governor Gina Raimondo and Dr. Nicole Alexander-Scott’s suggestions to stay home, to practice social distancing – even with loved ones, wash your hands often, and cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze, and if you are ill do not leave your home and call your doctor.

“The reason why I am sharing my family’s story is so that others will begin to take this more seriously, and practice all the guidelines that have been shared by our leaders.
