“This new PAC is a tremendous opportunity for us to organize in communities of color, recruit and fund progressive candidates of color, and to spread the word across Rhode Island that it is time to level the playing field for those left out of our government.“
On Monday, Black Lives Matter Rhode Island PAC (BLM RI PAC) officially launched. Interim Executive Director Joyce Wise has released the following statement in light of this announcement:
“I am excited to be working with Corey Jones and Josh Franco to build a new PAC that is led by young, progressive people of color,” said Wise. “We are beginning the work of turning our civil disobedience into concrete, permanent change for Rhode Islanders. This new PAC is a tremendous opportunity for us to organize in communities of color, recruit and fund progressive candidates of color, and to spread the word across Rhode Island that it is time to level the playing field for those left out of our government.”
Corey Jones will be serving as political director and Josh Franco will be leading organizing efforts. BLM RI PAC is organized as a hybrid PAC that will fundraise, donate, endorse, organize, and advertise to support candidates up and down the ballot in Rhode Island that are committed to real change at every level of government. Those interested in joining can contribute or volunteer here.
The Black Lives Matter Rhode Island PAC is a political action committee created by young people of color in Rhode Island with the belief that representation is the best way for government to serve the interests of its people. Right now, people of color are underrepresented across the state. BLM RI PAC seeks to change this by training, recruiting, supporting, and electing young people and people of color to offices up and down the ballot.
