Hearing Reveals FBI Has No Proof Antifa Organization Exists
Top FBI officials folded under questioning Thursday, admitting they cannot identify Antifa’s location or membership numbers despite labeling it America’s top terror threat. The hearing exposes a bureau weaponized to hunt political dissenters while failing to produce evidence that their target even exists. Who is the FBI really investigating?

At a contentious House hearing on Thursday, top FBI officials found themselves unable to answer the most basic questions about what they claim is America’s “primary” domestic threat: antifa. Despite billions in taxpayer funding and a directive from the White House to prioritize the group, the bureau failed to provide evidence of a headquarters, a membership roster, or any concrete proof that the “organization” exists.
Michael Glasheen, the FBI’s operations director selected by current FBI Director Kash Patel, appeared flummoxed when pressed by Democrats on the House Homeland Security Committee. When asked specifically where this alleged terrorist organization is located and how many members it has, Glasheen fumbled.
“We are building out the infrastructure right now,” Glasheen said, visibly struggling. He later added, “Well, that’s very fluid.”
The stunning display of incompetence implies a disturbing reality: The “major domestic terror threat” touted by the administration appears to have been conjured out of thin air. Despite the bureau’s massive budget and expansive surveillance powers, the FBI has made zero progress in finding the enemy they have been ordered to hunt.
Chasing Ghosts with Taxpayer Money
The hearing dealt a devastating blow to the credibility of an agency that has long suffered from budget bloat and accusations of manufacturing threats to justify its existence. Under the leadership of Kash Patel, the FBI has shifted its focus entirely to this phantom menace. Yet, when Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) demanded answers, the bureau came up empty.
“You said antifa is a terrorist organization. Tell us, as a committee, how did you come to that?” Thompson asked. “Where do they exist? How many members do they have in the United States as of right now?”
Glasheen could only offer that investigations were “active.”
Thompson drove the point home: “Sir, you wouldn’t come to this committee and say something you can’t prove, I know. I know you wouldn’t do that. But you did.”
The Politics of Fear
The obsession with antifa originates directly from former President Donald Trump. Most experts and historians agree that antifa is not a centralized organization with a hierarchy, but rather a political ideology defined simply by being against fascism.
However, facts have not stopped the administration’s crusade. Trump’s fixation was reportedly “supercharged” by the September 10 killing of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk in Utah. While the alleged shooter, Tyler Robinson, engraved a bullet with anti-fascist rhetoric, widespread links to a cohesive terror group have not materialized.
Regardless, the administration has utilized the specter of antifa to weaponize the federal government against political opponents. This comes in the wake of directive NSPM-7, which effectively labels those who oppose Trump’s agenda – potentially encompassing most of the American voting public – as terror threats worthy of investigation.
By designating a loose set of beliefs as a tangible “terrorist organization,” the administration has given itself license to investigate anyone leaning left. Meanwhile, the FBI ignores data from the Center for Strategic and International Studies showing that actual leftwing violence remains “much lower than historical levels of violence carried out by right-wing and jihadist attackers.”
With Kash Patel at the helm, the FBI seems content to chase political ghosts rather than address real dangers, leaving the public to wonder what exactly their tax dollars are paying for.
