Typo for Dunkin’ promotion in Cranston offers free offer to “White” residents

That was a mistake, said a corporate spokesperson at the site when Uprise RI arrived. And the company apologizes. It appears that the promotion originally ran in White Plains, NY, and was copy pasted by the corporation for Cranston, RI. Only the person copying, pasting and editing the post accidentally left in the word “White” and only edited the word “Plains” out.

Facebook readers were surprised and outraged when they saw a Facebook post advertising the 30 year anniversary of the Dunkin’ at 189 Sockanosset Road in Cranston over the last 24 hours. Shortly before 9am people lined up to be one of the first 100 guests who would receive free coffee for a year. But a misprint in the Facebook post falsely explained that the promotion was, “Open to White Cranston, RI, residents in the Cranston area.”

That was a mistake, said a corporate spokesperson at the site when Uprise RI arrived. And the company apologizes. It appears that the promotion originally ran in White Plains, NY, and was copy/pasted by the corporation for Cranston, RI. The person copying, pasting and editing the post accidentally left in the word “White” and only edited the word “Plains” out.

“I assumed it had to be a mistake,” said a Cranston resident at the store this morning. “But given what’s going on in the world, I wanted to be sure.”

It was an unfortunate mistake on the part of Dunkin’ corporate, which ran the promotion. It was not the fault of the franchisee or the store’s management, explained the spokesperson. Uprise RI understands from experience that correcting and editing a post on Facebook can be a difficult and frustrating process.

Aside from the Facebook error, the promotion was a huge success, said the spokesperson.
