Over the past three years, the World Language and Dual Language Immersion Act has easily passed the Senate chamber driven by the leadership of Senator Ciccone. Yet, despite the best efforts of Representative Diaz and others, the bill has continuously stalled in the House. Now more than ever we need to prioritize evidence-based educational models that will support our multilingual learners, especially our linguistically diverse communities in Providence, Central Falls, Pawtucket, and Woonsocket.

Here's the deal - At the House Judiciary hearing tonight Corvese is going to say a lot of high sounding bullshit about how his bill isn't targeting any group because of their race or because of what they believe. He will describe this as a law and order bill, and say that his intention is public safety. But this bill is not that. This bill is an another sad attempt to suppress speech the kind of speech that Corvese, Noret, Hawkins, Azzinaro, Casey and Phillips don't like.
Providence DSA: No, Mayor Elorza, you shouldn’t take advice on policing from Walmart
"Providence gains nothing by allowing Walmart oligarchs to direct public policy," writes the Providence DSA. "The working class of our city can’t depend on the good will of a few wealthy individuals and their think tanks. Essential social services have already been set aside in favor of the cheaper, crueler practices of incarceration and policing. There won’t be any progress toward racial or economic justice as long as politicians like Mayor Elorza collaborate with the elites who caused our problems in the first place."
