From a press release:
The Providence External Review Authority (PERA) will receive a briefing on the body camera footage requested from the Providence Police Department (PPD) related to the investigation into Sergeant Joseph Hanley.
PERA will convene a special (virtual) meeting to be held in executive session on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at 5pm. At this meeting, Commissioner Steven Paré and members of the PPD will present the video in question and provide a briefing on the same.
PERA has confirmed the subpoena in question has been lawfully delivered to the PPD and awaits the imminent delivery of the requested body camera footage.
Furthermore, this afternoon PERA delivered official notice to the Mayor’s Office and PPD requesting the opportunity to view evidence in the 12 complaints the PERA board has referred to the PERA investigator for a full and independent investigation.
PERA has made this request pursuant to Chapter 18 1⁄2 -2, subsection (n)(4) and subsection (q) of the Providence Code of Ordinances and has respectfully requested the PPD make the evidence in each case available to the PERA investigator as soon as possible.
PERA holds a monthly board meeting on every third Wednesday of the month and, as such, will host its next (virtual) board meeting on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at 5:00.
